So, I finished the Hobbit (admittedly over a week ago, but, time flies when you are busy!).
I really enjoyed reading The Hobbit, I knew I should have read it much sooner as it is a book that most people have read and so on, but, I just never go round to it before now. However, I did really enjoy it and found it hard to put down, I love the language that Tolkien uses in the book, it really draws you in to the story. It is also amazing this world that Tolkien has created, how he thought out every last detail and describes it beautifully so you can really create the images in your mind.
The characters were generally easy to like, I did not have a problem with any of them but did struggle to fall in love with any of them. I enjoyed being able to read from Bilbo’s point of view and did like him as a character, but, I would have liked to have been able to get more of a feel for the other characters personalities too. But, there is very little to find to dislike in this book, if anything really, so, I can see why it has been so popular over the last 75 years.
Despite that point, I would recommend this book to anyone who has seen the films (I admittedly have only seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy and not The Hobbit) and enjoyed them, to anyone who likes book series such as the Song of Ice and Fire series (A.K.A. Game of Thrones series) or other fantasy style books.
